The company specializes in the development of Laser Induced Fluorescence Detection systems for the detection of trace levels of molecules in biological samples using high performance liquid chromatography and capillary electrophoresis. It is a rapidly growing participant in the analytical laboratory instrumentation market; it was founded in early 1999 and employs 20 people.

Picometrics primary targets are the research and development, quality and process control laboratories in the pharmaceutical and biotechnological industries These users face significant issues in the detection of low concentration of molecules in very small samples (from Nanoliters to few Microliters in volume).
